conductor structure

The conductor of UL2464 wire typically adopts a stranded structure, commonly consisting of annealed tinned copper or bare copper strands conforming to ASTM standards. For example, a 24AWG core may be composed of multiple fine copper wires, each approximately 0.163 mm in diameter. This stranded design significantly enhances the cable's flexibility, allowing individual strands to slide relative to one another under frequent bending or complex routing conditions, thereby preventing conductor breakage caused by stress concentration. Additionally, the increased surface area from stranding reduces resistance more effectively than solid conductors of the same cross-sectional area, improving current transmission efficiency and making it particularly suitable for flexible routing within confined spaces inside electronic devices.

Insulation layer
The insulation layer is a key component of UL2464 wires, mainly made of PVC materials. These materials have excellent electrical insulation properties, which can effectively isolate the conductors from the external environment and prevent current leakage and short-circuit faults. The thickness of the insulation layer varies depending on the wire core specification and application scenario. For example, for UL2464 wires with a 26AWG wire core, the insulation layer thickness is generally around 0.25 millimeters. In addition to having good insulation properties, the insulation layer also has certain mechanical strength and wear resistance, which can withstand minor friction and compression during installation and use, ensuring the stability of the insulation performance of the cable over a long period of use.

Shielding layer (available for some UL2464 cables)
In some scenarios where electromagnetic interference is particularly sensitive, UL2464 cables are designed with a shielding layer. The shielding layer is typically made of materials such as copper foil, aluminum foil, or woven copper wires. The aluminum foil shielding layer has excellent shielding effect, effectively blocking external electromagnetic interference from entering the cable interior and preventing the signals transmitted within the cable from radiating externally and interfering with other devices. The aluminum foil shielding layer has the advantage of being lightweight and having a relatively lower cost, and is widely used in some occasions where cost control is strict and there are certain requirements for shielding performance. The woven copper wire shielding layer not only has the shielding function but also can enhance the mechanical strength of the cable to a certain extent, improving the cable's tensile and bending resistance. The design and application of the shielding layer ensure that UL2464 cables can maintain the accuracy and stability of signal transmission in the complex electromagnetic environment inside electronic devices.

Shielding layer is optional

Unshielded: Suitable for simple electrical environments, strict space requirements, and cost-sensitive ordinary internal wiring. Aluminum foil shielding: Wrapped with aluminum-plastic composite film, effectively isolating external static interference. Usually comes with tin-plated copper busbars for convenient wiring and grounding.

Woven mesh shielding: Using tin-plated copper wires or bare copper wires in a woven mesh, with stronger tensile strength, able to effectively suppress external high-frequency electromagnetic radiation.

Double-layer shielding (aluminum foil + woven mesh): Combining the advantages of both, providing the highest level of anti-electromagnetic interference protection, widely used in industrial automation, computers, and sensitive instruments.

Sheath
The sheath is located at the outermost layer of the cable and its main function is to provide comprehensive mechanical protection for the internal conductor, insulation layer, and shielding layer (if any). The sheath material is mostly PVC. PVC sheaths have the advantages of low cost, good processing performance, and strong resistance to chemical corrosion. They can effectively resist the erosion of acids, alkalis, salts and other chemical substances in general environments. At the same time, they have certain wear resistance and weather resistance. The presence of the sheath enhances the overall strength of the cable, enabling it to better withstand external forces such as pulling, squeezing, and friction during installation and use, and prolonging the service life of the cable.
